Most superheroes who try to protect other people from evil wear a mask.
In the cause of trauma victims, we protect other people from things they seem unwilling to discuss or unable to understand,
and ourselves from the shame we have been made to feel. This hurts like hell.
Merely being around other people does not mean one is not isolated. Feeling alone with the consequences of history that you feel you can't discuss can be far more painful than living apart from other people.
So many negative effects.
Risk aversion. Feeling unsafe.
Expecting tricks, and lies, and mistreatment.
Trigger avoidance.
Not feeling in control of one's life.
Re-Contextualize, with help. It's impossible to see yourself accurately, particularly if one is a victim of trauma.
Defamiliarize everything: who you are, who the people around you are.
Come to a true understanding of your magnificence and significance and exquisite perfection.
Take control. With help.
Eliminate toxic influences.
Evict them from your life altogether.
They poison you.
Re-open the Pandora's box of miracles inside of you, the one you were born with, employing the new understanding that it is safe to do so.
Re-claim your fierce inner child, and let it wreak lovely havoc, making the world better for everyone.
Maybe eat someone's face. :)
With the knowledge that your scars make you even more beautiful,
that your wounds can sing,
that your pain is fuel for powerful gifts and abilities,
you rightfully take pride in them.
They make you more.
